I’ve always loved the cool tones of this and the way the shadows play on the petals and the ground

Truly one of the first signs of spring

they are no competition for the nectar found in the real thing

and once established

progress and growth has done away with the garden but I take comfort in the knowledge that it lives on in my painting

Occasionally I will spy one hanging out in my yard always a treat recently I had a stare down with one of them out my kitchen window while he sat on my wall peeking in.
