First Morning of 2012 in Denver Size:24"x36" The park is quite different

The park is quite different in the winter with just a small portion of road open in the park

Showing up about 45 minutes prior to sunrise brought a dramatic looking sky over Denver

Each year as November approaches I look forward to the project

While driving past the Denver Convention Center and Denver Performing Arts Center it is hard not to miss the sculpture "The Dancers"

Preparing for this at the western edge of the park I position myself close to where I felt the sun would be over the city when creating this image

First Morning of 2012 in Denver Size:24"x36" The park is quite differentThe start of a new year is usually marked by sleeping in late due to the celebration from the prior night heading into the early hours of January 1st. To start off 2012, I fought the urge to sleep in and woke up in time to capture the first sunrise over Denver. As I waited for the sun to rise it was obvious people were still heading home after a long night, however like myself they were treated to the clouds lighting this first morning of 2012.
