A great blue heron remains motionless as mist comes off of wildflower lake on this august morning in Northern Illinois

I left this spot to head to the east end of the lake

I crossed over the South Fork Kishwaukee River and noticed the sunlight lighting up the clouds and the prairie landscape with a remarkable and beautiful light

The lighting was starting to become interesting on this end of the lake so

With the extreme cold temperatures of January and February, waterfalls form as the afternoon sun begins to melt the snowfall from the previous day only to have that snow and water freeze overnight as the temperatures drop to 9F to 0F creating impressive and colorful waterfalls at Starved Rock State Park.
