In 1782 it was decided to link regiments to a county and it then became the 33rd or 1st Yorkshire West Riding

the 51st was part of Colonel Mitchell’s brigade being ordered to occupy a portion of the narrow road leading to the junction of the Hougoumont avenue with the Nivelles road

28th (North Gloucestershire) Regiment of Foot Blow Torch A young Arthur Wellesley joined28th (North Gloucestershire) Regiment of Foot The regiment was first raised as Sir John Gibson's Regiment of Foot in 1694, disbanded in 1697, but reformed under the same colonel in 1702 during the War of the Spanish Succession and fought at the Battle of Elixheim in 1705 and at Ramillies in 1706. They saw action in Spain, Flanders, Canada and North America during the Independence War and Flanders again, France the West Indies, Gibraltar and Menorca
